This is a $1000 one year scholarship award. 

The student must be a North Carolina high school senior and, if available,  participating in a school curriculum that involves health care activities.  It is not necessary that the student already be accepted for enrollment in a post high school nursing program, but he/she must have made application. If the student is not accepted to or pursuing a qualified post high school program in nursing, the award is forfeited.  Additionally, the student must attend a North Carolina post high school program.

Kyle Byrd Memorial Scholarship

Each year, the NC JCI Senate Kyle Byrd Memorial Scholarship program selects two applicants and awards them a $500 scholarship each.

In addition, the NC JCI Senate Scholarship program will also select two applicants to submit for the US JCI Senate Scholarship program which awards several $2000, $1500 and $1000 scholarships.  This year both college and vocational scholarships are offered at the national level.

National Beta Scholarship Recipients are well-rounded students who, while excelling academically, also are wholeheartedly engaged in active club participation. They are committed to school and community service and are continuously improving upon our four pillars by demonstrating leadership within their club.  The application process consists of two phases designed to select the most deserving National Beta members.

Modern Woodmen awards $450,000 each year in a scholarship competition open exclusively to member students. The scholarships help with the rising cost of higher education, while recognizing students’ hard work and volunteer service.

Each year, 198 graduating seniors win up to $10,000 to help with educational pursuits after high school. An independent panel of judges select 33 winners from each of six geographic regions (see below).

Track 1: Volunteer experience + academic achievement

• 12 scholarships at $10,000 each.
• 12 scholarships at $7,500 each.
• 12 scholarships at $5,000 each.
• 12 scholarships at $2,500 each.

Track 2: Volunteer experience

• 150 scholarships at $1,000 each.

Do I qualify?

To be eligible to compete, you must:

• Be a high school senior, graduating between Jan. 1 and Aug. 31 of the year the scholarship is awarded.
• Be a Modern Woodmen member, covered by Modern Woodmen life insurance or an annuity for at least one year as of Jan. 1 of the year the scholarship is awarded.*
• Have at least 40 hours of volunteer experience in the previous two years.
• Have a minimum 3.5 GPA (for Track 1) or 2.5 GPA (for Track 2).
• Plan to attend an accredited two- or four-year college/university or a trade/vocational/technical school for the upcoming fall term.

*The life insurance certificate must be on a premium-paying basis or must be paid-up according to the terms of the certificate, other than through use of the nonforfeiture option. The annuity must be a Modern Woodmen fixed or variable annuity.

Description:

The Cole family, prominent in the textile industry, owned Richmond County textile mills that were sold after World War II. The Cole Foundation was originally established in 1965 as a private foundation with gifts from Elizabeth S. Cole and Robert L. Cole in memory of their parents, William B. and Elizabeth Little Cole, and their sister, Catherine Cole. They made many anonymous gifts, benefiting many charitable organizations. After their deaths in 1987 and 1988, the majority of their estates were left to The Cole Foundation. The Cole Foundation focuses resources primarily in Richmond County, North Carolina to serve a broad range of charitable, educational, religious, literary, and cultural purposes.

The Cole Scholarship was established in 1990 to increase the number of high school graduates from Richmond County, North Carolina who pursue post-secondary education.

This Golden LEAF Scholarship is open to high school seniors and community college transfer students who reside in a qualifying rural, economically distressed North Carolina county and are planning to enroll full-time in a participating public or private college or university located in North Carolina.

Eligibility Requirements

• Be a North Carolina resident for tuition purposes
• Reside in a qualifying rural North Carolina county
• Be a graduating North Carolina high school senior or a currently enrolled North Carolina community college transfer student enrolling full-time in the fall

I am the Scholarship Chairman for the Beta Zeta Chapter of North Carolina Alpha Delta Kappa, an organization for women educators.  Every year, our state organization awards three scholarships of $2000 each to qualifying seniors on track to graduate and planning to attend a 4-year college or university.

Specific eligibility requirements are: Academic rank in top 10% of class, Minimum SAT score of 1290 or ACT composite score of 27, good character and participation in extra-curricular activities (school and community). Financial need is not the primary consideration.

The Clare Johnson Marley-Mary Earle Berger Fine Arts Scholarship is open to any student who is currently graduating from an accredited public high school in North Carolina that follows the NC Standard Course of Study and who expects to enroll in a four-year college or university next fall, and who is declaring his/her major in an area of the fine arts. Specific eligibility requirements are: Academic rank in top 20% of class, Minimum SAT score of 1220 or ACT composite score of 25, good character and participation in extra-curricular activities (school and community). Financial need is not the primary consideration. (Samples of talent are required to be submitted with the application.)

Another scholarship sponsored by our organization is the North Carolina Alpha Delta Kappa Student Achievement Scholarship.  It is also for $2000 and is open to a male or female, on track to graduate this spring, planning to pursue an education degree at a school of higher learning.  Specific eligibility requirements are:  SAT score of 990 to 1130 or ACT composite score of 20 to 24; unweighted GPA of 2.5 to 3.5; good character, integrity, leadership potential and service to school, community and church.  Students should apply for this scholarship through the North Carolina Community Foundation at www.nccommunityfoundation.org. A flyer with further information on this scholarship is attached to this email.

 Timothy W. Franklin Memorial Scholarship 

In 2014, my husband, Timothy W. Franklin, graduated from RCC in the ADN program. This was one of his greatest accomplishments. Sadly, he only practiced nursing for 2 years before he became terminally ill and passed away. Although his nursing career was short, he loved being a nurse and was a great one. It is my honor and privilege to give this scholarship in memory of Tim to a future nurse!

Scholarship Name: REaCH Community Service Scholarship 

Purpose: The Community Service Scholarship aims to recognize and reward students who have demonstrated a strong commitment to improving their communities through service and leadership.  

Eligibility Criteria: 

• Must be a high school senior attending a four-year college or university in the fall. 

• Must have a minimum GPA of 4.0 on a 5.0 scale. 

• Must have completed a minimum of 40 hours of community service within the past four years. (Official documentation from the organization must be submitted with the application, scan of documentation is sufficient.) 

• Must submit an essay. Essay submission must be 250 words double spaced using 12 pt font describing their experiences with community service and how they have positively impacted their community or others. 

Selection Criteria 

• Selection will be based on the applicant’s essay, academic achievements, and community service record.  

• The scholarship committee will look for evidence of the applicant’s commitment to community service, leadership, and the impact of their community. 

Award Amount: $500 (one time award) This is a one-time award and is not renewable. The scholarship funds will be issued upon receiving a certificate of enrollment for the fall semester. 

Application Deadline: March 13, 2026. 

Application Process: 

• Applicants must submit all documentation including official transcript, community service documentation record signed and contact information for verification purposes (organization or community member you assisted must have signed off), and essay.  

• The Scholarship committee will review all applications and select the winner based on the eligibility and selection criteria.

This year, Sandhills PRIDE is offering up to one (1) $6,000.00 award and up to three (3) $3,000.00 awards.
